Tamarind, the main ingredient is from a 100-year-old tree at my farmhouse in Rajasthan. During summer holidays, at precisely 5.30 pm every day, this simple and refreshing drink would quench our thirst. It’s a part of my childhood and I am reminded of it as soon as temperatures rise.
Ingredients
- For 4 glasses
- Handful of tamarind
- Jaggery to taste
- 1 Litre water
- Ice cubes
Preparation
Prep: 5 minutes
Cooking: 5 minutes
- Soak a handful of tamarind and jaggery in water for 4-5 hours.
- 4-5 hours later, mash the ingredients with a spoon to ensure jaggery has melted and mixed thoroughly.
- Strain the syrup, add a litre of water and stir.
- Top it up with ice and garnish with mint leaves.
- Tamarind has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which help increase immunity. This drink is a perfect way to hydrate during summer.
