Crispy Spicy Chicken

It’s a very popular crispy chicken recipe from South India prepared using chicken marinated in spices and flavoured with tomato ketchup and yoghurt. This amazing combination of chicken and spicy sauces is sure to be loved by all.


  • For the Marinade
  • 500gms Chicken
  • 1 Pinch Red Chilli Powder
  • 3 Tbsp Coriander Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Turmeric
  • 4 Tsp Yoghurt (Curd)
  • 6 Curry Leaves
  • 4 Green Chilli
  • 4 Tbsp Tomato Ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp Refined Oil
  • Salt to Taste 
  • For the Garnishing
  • 1 Stalk Spring Onions (chopped)


Prep: 10 minutes
Cooking: 30 minutes

  1. For the marination, take a bowl and mix chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, curd and salt together. This marination step is very important and will give the chicken its real flavour.
  2. Wash the chicken in cold running water and cut it into pieces. When done, add the chicken pieces in the above mixture and marinate them. Once the chicken pieces are well coated, keep them aside for 4-6 hours so that flavours are well absorbed.
  3. Now, take a deep-bottomed pan and heat oil in it over medium flame. Once the oil is sufficiently hot, carefully put the marinated chicken pieces in the oil and shallow fry till cooked or golden on both sides.
  4. Now, remove and cook the chicken pieces in a separate pan without oil over low flame. This step will make the chicken crispier. Once done, add the green chillies, curry leaves and ketchup. Mix well till the chicken pieces are well coated and continue to cook over medium heat for 5-6 minutes.
  5. Transfer the dish in a serving bowl and garnish with chopped spring onions. Serve as a snack or you can pair it with drinks of your choice.
