Irish Soda Bread

As intimidating and tedious it may seem to bake bread, the smell of freshly baked loaf wafting out of one’s kitchen is heavenly and blissful. Many times, I feel this urge to just run into the kitchen and bake my own bread. But time isn’t always your best friend. So, we look for some momentary happiness by baking quick and no yeast bread. This is one such treat that never seems to disappoint.

Ingredients

  • 265gm Whole Wheat Flour
  • 265gm Refined Flour
  • 1 Tsp Tata Salt
  • 30ml Disano Olive Oil
  • 370ml Buttermilk
  • 1 Tsp Caraway Seeds
  • 1 Tsp Baking Soda

Preparation

Prep: 20 minutes
Cooking: 50 minutes


  1. Sift all the dry ingredients together. Add the caraway seeds and mix well.
  2. Now, whisk the buttermilk and olive oil together in a jug.
  3. Mix the dry and wet ingredients together in a mixing bowl and make dough. One just needs to bring the mixture together and not actually knead the dough.
  4. Place the dough in a baking sheet and score it.
  5. Brush some oil just before baking. Bake at 180°C for 50 mins or until done.
  6. Remove and cool well before slicing.
  7. Enjoy with a generous layer of butter and a cup of beverage of your choice.
