Prawn Ghassi

A very flavourful prawn in coconut and tamarind curry from South India. Simple and delicious!

Ingredients

  • 300 Grams Prawns (peeled)
  • 2 Medium Onions (chopped)
  • 4 Dried Red Chilies (roasted)
  • 2 Tsp Coriander Seeds
  • 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 8-10 Black Peppercorns
  • 1/4 Tsp Fenugreek Seeds
  • 5 Garlic Cloves
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp Tamarind Pulp
  • 1 Cup Grated Coconut
  • Salt to Taste
  • Oil

Preparation

Prep: 10 minutes
Cooking: 30 minutes


  1. Grind the coconut, one chopped onion, red chillies, coriander, cumin, fenugreek, peppercorns, turmeric, garlic and tamarind pulp with a little bit of water to form a smooth paste.
  2. Heat oil in a pot and fry rest of the onions till brown.
  3. Now add the coconut paste and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add a little bit of water and bring to a boil.
  4. Now add the prawns. Simmer for a few minutes until done, add salt and check for seasoning.
