Baale Hoovina Pakoda (Banana Floret Crisps)

This dish is made of banana flowers, it’s crispy and tangy. A perfect combination of banana floret flavour and a hint of garlic makes it a yummy evening snack. I enjoyed making this dish as much as I did eating it.

Ingredients

  • 1 Banana Flower
  • 2 Tbsp Besan Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Corn Flour
  • 1/2 Cup Maida
  • 1.5 Tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 2 Tbsp Oil
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Turmeric
  • 1 Tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • Chaat Masala- As Per Taste

Preparation

Prep: 15 minutes
Cooking: 5 minutes

  1. Carefully peel banana flower skin (save the skin for presentation) and separate florets. Open each floret to remove the centre part with bulb and a small white curtain. Once done, soak it in water for about 10 minutes.
  2. Drain the water, now add besan flour, maida and cornflour to the florets, add salt, oil, turmeric, ginger garlic paste and red chilli powder. Mix them all, sprinkle a little bit of water, the batter is ready.
  3. Heat oil, and fry them until golden brown.
  4. Once they are out, sprinkle chaat masala.
  5. Use the banana flower skin to put the pakodas and relish.
